Bill Lewis Bill, a full time artist moved with his wife from the Washington DC area to Stowe in 1994. He was born and raised in Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan, and served as an intelligence officer with the Central Intelligence Agency for 34 years. Bill Lewis has drawn or painted for most of his life, working primarily with ink, using a technical pen, before turning to watercolor several years ago. He has settled on watercolor, enhanced by acrylic ink for the line work, as his favorite medium. Bill is primarily self taught although he has studied portraiture, figure drawing, and watercolor techniques with instructors in northern Virginia and Vermont. He credits his two years studying architecture at the University of Michigan for his precision in painting the buildings into his landscapes. He has created detailed paintings of houses for many clients in the Stowe area. He has exhibited at the annual For Arts’ Sake shows sponsored by the Helen Day Art Center for the past six years and has twice won the Award of Excellence for his drawings. He currently works primarily on watercolor-acrylic paintings of the towns of north-central Vermont with focus on Stowe but occasionally breaks from these subjects to produce detailed ink drawings of jazz musicians or whimsical drawings of cats. Robert Paul Galleries is proud to show the works of American artist Bill Lewis. |
