Jesus Bacci Born in Peru, in 1952, Jesus A. Villaflor Rojas Bacci is one of a group of extraordinary landscape painters that emerged during the last part of the last decade. Peru has been traditionally a country of figure painters since the Cuzco School of Painting in the seventeenth century. But a movement, probably commanded by Bamse Antunez de Mayolo, commenced in the 1970’s. This group began painting their local surroundings so successfully that it generated a demand that allowed them to travel and generalize the subject. Bacci came to Lima to study painting in the famous Lima School of Arts in 1969. Despite strong opposition, he graduated with the highest honors given from the school. He was well known for his defense of the traditional landscape which was in contrast to the teachings of the school at that time. Because of his convictions he considered leaving the school on several occasions. Despite such difficult times, Bacci became in demand and prospered to become one of the best known in the genre. Since his first major exhibition at the Nationl Association of Artists in Huanuco, and Lima in 1981, Bacci has exhibited his works in galleries throughout Peru and the world. Robert Paul Galleries is proud to present the works of Jesus Bacci to the American Collector. _ |
