Brian Davis 

       Brian Davis, a native Californian, was born into a family of musician parents in 1946. He has loved art all his life, even before his formal education in Fine Art at Pierce College and California State University-Los Angeles.

     Brian was greatly influenced by the Dutch Masters along with Art Nouveau and Art Deco artists. He is inspired by images of highly stylized renditions of flowers and their intensity of color achieved by many, many layers of paint.

     Before he begins his artistic journey on canvas, Brian combs the fields and gardens near his home for a flower or scene that catches his eye. He carries a camera everywhere so he can shoot a subject at any moment. Since flowers wilt so quickly, and it can take weeks to complete a painting, he has found a way to create a floral image from a series of different shots for each flower.

     Brian transforms exquisite blossoms like roses, calla lilies, and dahlias into romantic, compelling images with sharpness, color, movement, edge and light. Brian begins a painting with the darkest shades of colors, representing the background, and then proceeds to bring layers upon layers of colors “forward” to achieve the three-dimensional quality of his technique, known as “value painting”. Since the early eighties Brian’s focus on oil paintings and the further refining of his “value painting” techniques has brought his body of work to new heights of artistic expression and perfection.

     Brian is an artist with vast understanding and knowledge of art. “My art, like all art, is at its core a form of communication that is not easily translated into words - good art transcends words. My goal is to find the most elegant way to express my subject; to discover the hidden beauty which is overlooked and bring it to light; to remind people of the magnificence of the world around us.” It is his hope that viewers look at his works and respond, understanding his concept of what is worth creating. His paintings allow the viewer to feel and recognize the nature of light.
