Chris Tully Christopher Tully's interest in animals began at an early age. "When I was a child and I went to the zoo, I felt like the animals were magic. I thought that they were all smiling and could talk to me. Those magical feelings have never been lost. It is this sense of magic which I hope to capture and combine with what I perceive as an animal's natural beauty". And Chris has been able to express that ideal in his marvelous ceramic sculptures, combining bright, energetic color with delightful forms to create his own menagerie of magical animals. Chris continued his exploration at the University of Minnesota through studies in art and biology. He considers himself an environmental artist, and his respect for nature is a strong influence in his work. The animals are each infused with a mood or expression which suggests an individual personality. Sometimes they inhabit aquaria, tropical rain forests, coral reefs, lost temples or lunar landscapes, which Chris has created for them in a variety of other mediums. By combining the use of clay with the painted surface, Chris pushes the ceramic medium beyond traditional limits in a way that is not threatening to the average viewer. Instead, his serious commitment to environmental concerns joins with a whimsical outlook to establish a balanced, positive and joyous body of work. Chris' animals and installations can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout the country. Robert Paul Galleries is proud to show the works of American artist Chris Tully. |
