The world of Tom Neel’s paintings is one of whimsical reality, a great escape, a favorite place, stories painted to put a smile on your face! Tom says “Painting for me is a bit like having a party, you plan on inviting all your friends and having a good time. I’m having a great time and you’re all invited to share in the fun!” Tom was born in Washington D.C. and raised in the nearby Maryland suburbs. His early interests were equally divided between music, drawing and cars. “I’ve never stopped being creative” explains Tom. Mr. Neel tends to dwell on the humorous side of life with images that are positive by nature. Largely self-taught, his paintings, which Tom defines as Whimsical Realism begin as stories and evolve into works of art. The idea part of the process is an on-going one of imagination, one that blended with a conscience for detail, light, color and composition. “They all play a supporting role in how the story plays out” admits Tom. After a four year period of living in New England where he worked for the fine art publisher, The Greenwich Workshop, Tom returned in 1994 to his home territory. He now lives with his wife Linda outside of Washington D.C. near Marshall, Virginia. The group of collectors enjoying Tom’s images, both nationally and internationally, is growing every day with the exposure from his limited edition prints and the numerous group shows he continues to present. Robert Paul Galleries is proud to show the works of American artist Tom Neel. |
